Just like every day has a night, every year has a winter and every life has a “death” ~ depression is a NEEDED part of the emotional life of us on this planet. For whatever reason, we are a planet and a species governed by the cycles of seasons…and to fight this natural flow of seasons is unnatural to the human psyche.
A few reasons depression is needed is this:
* To allow some IN*side time following external extroversion time
* To allow for a “death” or transition out of old ideas/thoughts/beliefs/people in order to CREATE ROOM for new ideas/thoughts/beliefs/people that will allow us to continue our path of GROWTH.
* To allow the tears to flow, which the tear ducts are the end point of the liver meridian. Tears are the cleansing waters to keep the liver (a major digestion organ) working properly. When tears are blocked, so is liver energy, and so is your physical digestion which can circle back around to making you “blocked” in other ways.
* To clear the throat chakra and the solar plexus with gut wrenching weeping and wailing through the vocal cords of old, tired, energy that no longer serves you.
If you take a step back from the heavy weight that depression often carries in our culture, can you allow yourself to see the Cyclical NEED and benefits of depression in your life? If so, what are they? I’m sure if we put our heads together we can come up with more than the above.
