Commitment – a word that I had learned last year that I had a real fear of. After a lifetime of commitment to so much in my life that ended blowing up in my face…I couldn’t blame myself for developing this fear.
So this year, this became my #1 word of intention: commitment. Commitment to myself by committing to showing up in a way I know I have been called – yet couldn’t find my way of bringing this calling into the world.
I won’t say that it has been easy, yet I see that my shift in mindset from “it has to happen NOW”…to…”let’s be committed to showing up no matter what and see what happens” has and is paying off. It is not about getting it right, getting it right now, or about being popular or a world changer…it is about being with mySelf in this journey and showing up for me ~ and those that see the value in themselves reflected in me and what I am doing for community around these parts.
I am comparing this year to one of having a new born. The gestation period for these babies has been greater than any real life baby I have had. And now that they are out – whoa baby! That is what Movement Medicine and the Sisterhood of Red Tent: Reclaiming our 1st Bleed (Maidenhood) are to me. Precious, demanding and at times life-sucking newborns. My social life has been affected. AT times I am sleep deprived (tho thankfully not as much as those physical babies).
Yet, being a woman who has birthed and is raising two kids through their life cycles – and through m
own – I understand this process intimately and know that this is just the beginning…
Slow and steady, with commitment to myself and those that are showing up with me – that is the job of a mother nursing a newborn into the world. May this encourage you for whatever you are BIRTHING into this world. Even if you are a man, may you tap into your nurturing goodness within and birth what you are being called to with the steadfastness of a parent.
So, now it is your turn:
- * How do you do with this word?
- * What feelings and sensations come up in your body when you sink into this word? Where do you feel them?
- * If willing, have a little conversation with these feelings/sensations and ask them what their story is? What beliefs they hold you to…and where they might be outdated and ready for an update!
