At the heart, I think but am not totally sure, is the concept of GRACE and MERCY. I one heard these terms defined like this:
Grace – getting what we do not deserve…such as a God completely wiping out our sins and not counting them against us.
Mercy – not getting what we do deserve…which is the death that is the wages of our sin, our wrongdoings towards others, towards ourselves and towards God.
I might have gotten those backwards, but hopefully this paints the picture that without either one of these things…when we get ourselves into dire straits we wouldn’t be able to ever get ourselves out.
But more than this…is what I will roughly quote from Anne Lammot (my new favorite author):
“Grace is God’s way of taking us JUST as we are.
Yet at the same time loving us TOO much to leave us there.”
