Rediscovering (17&18): Adoption & Fasting

Actually really wanted to write about yesterdays reading theme: adoption.  This is an interesting subject for me since I was never officially adopted into any family…yet starting at the age of 8 I lived with a series of 5 families.  I was completely willing to write about my experience…although I do not think it would have shed a good light the questions YouVersion were hopefully wanting adoption to shed.  Plus, it would have probably served to only further trigger more memories that I am not sure I want to really trigger right now.

Today’s reading: about fasting.  My point on this one – I am not so good at this practice.  The most I did it was this summer – and that was more due to getting sick and then just trying to get healthy so I fasted from solid foods for about a week or so.  The experience did allow me to draw closer to God and now know that it helped prepare me for this period of my journey.  Yet, I do believe there are lots of other ways to fast in this day and age and will be looking at these areas again down the road.  Yet, I have to share these verses from Isaiah 58, a chapter that is well loved in my bible and is recorded on my iPhone…as it has special meaning to me in more ways than one.  I pray that you will mull over these verses and see where you might need to “fast”.

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:

to loose the chains of injusticeand untie the cords of the yoke,to set the oppressed free

and break every yoke?

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungryand to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them,

and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?
