Rediscovering Day 25: I have a Dream too

Continued from here

It is in the “waiting” that our character is defined.  I mean, you can either sit on your rear and wait for good things to come to you….OR….you can go out and “wait” by going after the things you desire to happen in your life.

Yet, what gets us from point A – sitting on our rear – to point B – taking action?  For me, I think it is the HOPE of daydreaming.  Just like Martin Luther King, Jr. I think we all have dreams, and those dreams give us the HOPE that we need to push forward with our lives and not get stuck just sitting by idly while twiddling our thumbs.
“I have a dream…” embodies hope.  And I am not talking about the spiritual dreams that my old pious self would be quick to jump to or that every Miss America/Miss World contestant would spout.  Sometimes our dreams have to start with the smaller things in life…
….. I have a dream to be emotionally healthy and growing towards Christlikeness.
……..I have a dream to be the best mother I can, and to be able to be humble enough to ask for forgiveness when I am not.
…….I have a dream to find real friends and make real connections so I can get out of my hiding and into the LIGHT.
I think for me, many times these real “wants”  hide underneath my desires to be in a good relationship, to have a fun social life and kids that love me …the things I find myself daydreaming about.  While these surfacey dreams are good…it is only in getting below the surface that I find what will really satisfy…and eventually lead to the the surface dreams.
More than this, though, this time of year stirs up other dreams in my heart.
My dream for…..
 ………Peace on Earth
……….for every child to never be hungry or thirsty or lonely
……….for the Spirit of Christmas, the kindness that is more prevalent than at any other time of the year, to be around at all times of the year.
Yet, my true desire under this that needs to be met first in my heart, in your heart and all of those around the world is to know this: I am truly LOVED and therefore there is no need to compete or judge or criticize others, including myself. That I am valuable and desired just as I am by the great God who made me, that I am no better than you and you no better than me, but we are all in this together…
…and the only way I will EVER know this is if I allow God to not only come near…but allow God to INVADE Earth thru Jesus, and Jesus thru me.  The ONLY way for Peace on Earth to happen is if I allow Heaven to Invade Earth one person at a time, starting with me.
Sounds impossible, doesn’t it?
If so, allow your mind to wander and wrestle with
dreaming how this might happen in your life….
what this might look like not on a national, world-wide level,
but just in your own life —
because if we have learned one thing this advent season it is this:
“Nothing is impossible for God.”
