“D” is for Dance Mama – Dance!
(#DanceMama)
Remember those days when we used to put the music on, grab our hairbrushes and dance with our girlfriends in front of the mirror until we fell over laughing in ecstatic joy?
Well, it is time to bring this ecstatic joy back into your life Sister.
Whether you are at home by yourself with the kids, shopping for more diapers and onsies at Target or feeling down in the dumps – movement to music is one of the best cures around.
Here’s a little bit from American Dance Therapy Association about the benefits of Dance/Movement for the Embodied Soul:
Dance/movement therapy uses movement to “further the emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration of the individual.” Through movement, DMT can help individuals with a wide range of psychological disorders achieve greater self-expression.
While the grumpy mommy syndrome and body shaming may not be a label yet in the infamous DSM (Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), I KNOW from personal experience as well as that of others how healing dancing/movement is for the Soul.
Humans have been using dancing as part of their customs and practices for millennia. A quick search on Google will result in plenty on the healing balm that dancing/movement to music is to the body.
And when babies/toddlers here a beat, you can almost be sure those cute chubby knees start a-bouncing!
Yet, so many of us have been trained out of letting lose to music ~ keeping stiff, sitting still and barely moving what comes naturally when our ears drink in the healing vibrational sound of melodies. Especially as women, we do a number on ourselves if we don’t look as sauve as the teacher at Zumba and become self-conscious at weddings and events if we haven’t had enough to drink.
Are you ready to do away with this trend and get back to your pre-puberty bliss state of joy through moving your body?
If so – here is today’s invitation.
