8:05 Walked to event. Tried to make a 30+ min walk in 25- mins. Even with Speedy Gonzales Gazelle legs – it did not work. I made it in 30+.
8:30 First session – No Equipment Necessary. All about using your own body weight, gravity and movement. Last 45 mins of class – the workout. Five sets, 45 mins. No problem. Except those legs mentioned above – they did NOT agree . Neither did my sickness that is hanging on by a thread…nor the fact that I had no change of clothes and did not want to sit around wet for the next upteen hours. Made it two sets, 15 mins. Sweated for the next 20 mins. Who said you need fancy, expensive equipment to make you look good?!
10:15-6:15 Sat around listening to lectures. Lots of great information. Lots of fun. Lots of intellectual overload. And now…lots of DOMS (“Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness”…which really shouldn’t have taken place until tomorrow…pretty sad that I am a fitness guru and this is how my body is treating me).
Overall, it was an amazing day even if my head was spinning by 5 O’clock and on emergency shut down by 6. Here are a few things I learned today:
* How to change a person’s behavior by getting them to focus on what was driving their emotions (actually this is stuff I learned in Life Skills and counseling…and from Dave Burns and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy…but very cool the fitness world is implementing this knowledge!)
* To stop the BMW (that stands for “Bi**c, Moan, Whine); that we need to “Bring Recess Back!” for all ages; how to have “Simple Sticky Sexy Soundbites”; we need to “redefine normal” sometimes every day; we are all “glacierizing” from disuse…and so much more.
* Epigenetics – google it…cool stuff
* That I REALLY need to start paying more attention to my ideas because half of what I sat in on today – or maybe more – is stuff I have been saying for at least 3+ years. I guess that is “The Visionary” coming out in my personality profile…who would have guessed this backwards girl from a little bit of every where is actually a trend-setter?!?!? {Shhh…let’s keep that our little secret!}
* That coaching, not training, is the wave of the future (that’s one of those things I have been saying!)
* That out of almost 310 million people in the USofA, almost 70% of us are now overweight and growing obese. Folks, this is an epidemic! What are we doing about this? What am I doing about it?
* There is a great company out there called Anytime Fitness, which has a great product called Anytime Health — that might just be an easy answer to a prayer for help as I think more about developing my idea of “Practice Joy: Celebrating life with your mind, body and heart!”
I’ll keep you posted on this, I think I might actually have an idea that will move forward for more than 4 months here!
Needless-to-say – Temptation Island…my shadow mission might have won the round today. We know it at least kicked my butt and my body in a major way. I am down for the count, sitting on a heating pad, hoping to bring some healing to my tried and tired muscles.
